The Arkansas Fallen Firefighters' Memorial will be
built on the west side of the State Capitol on the grass mall south of
the Big Mac Building. Construction cannot begin until full funding
is achieved. The cost is estimated at $911,000. The Memorial
has raised about 40% of that amount thru a combination of cash, pledges
and construction donations.
The Memorial is governed by a board of firefighters from all fire
service organizations in Arkansas. This includes the Arkansas
Forestry Commission. This is very important since there are
millions of acres of valuable timberland that is protected by the
forestry firefighters and the 950 fire departments in Arkansas.
The mission of the Firefighters' Memorial Board is to build a
memorial on the State Capital Grounds to honor the men and women of
Arkansas who have died in the line of duty while serving the
citizens of Arkansas as firefighters, and to teach fire prevention
during tours of the memorial to reduce the pain and suffering of
burn deaths and injuries, and to provide scholarship opportunities
to the children of Arkansas firefighters.
To help achieve these goals we need the help of friends who care.
To protect homes, factories, businesses, schools and our forests, we
rely on these dedicated public servants to risk their lives even
when the rescue results in injury or death to a firefighter.
Many firefighters are EMT's who extricate anyone who is trapped in a
vehicle accident, jump into a rain swollen river or ditch to save
someone from drowning and shore up the walls of trenches and rescue
construction workers. Help has come from Jackson Brown King Architects by designing a
majestic memorial for no fee, and CDI will serve as the General
Contractor for no fee.
The opportunity to buy a space on the granite walkway is a perfect
way to say thanks for a job well done. Any civic club, church,
business, family or
individual can have their name or message
engraved as a permanent tribute to those who go all out to ensure
our safety and protect our property. A granite
paver is a way
to surprise someone by making a lasting tribute for a friend who has
touched your life in a special way. The purchase of a paver is
tax
deductible.
Step up and be counted and while you go about your day remember
those who will respond day or night to any call for help.
